Default Front Suspention Questions

My car shakes at about 80mph down the freeway. I know that i need new tires and an alignment. I was looking to replace the bushings and the ball joints in the front end, i am kind of lost when it comes to suspention. I have a lot of tools and a lift at my disposal. I dont know if the bushings need to be pressed in or not. I would like to just generally like to stiffen up the front end. Also, what do you reccomend I do to the rear end. This car is my daily driver that i like to mess around with, im not looking to turn it into a drag machine. Thanks Guys

If you need tires I'd start there. At a tire shop they will probably shake down the front end before doing an alignment and tell you what you need.

Also an alignment isn't going to fix a vibration.

If your looking for better handling a set of lowering springs, bigger front sway bar, strut tower brace and subframe connectors will really help out.

In addition to the above response depending on the amount of miles you have on the car, replacing the steering rack wouldn't be a bad idea also.

Vibration could be a bad alignment, tire out of round, wheel out of balance from a missing weight or dried mud stuck the inside of the rim, possibly a bad ball joint, bad wheel bearing, worn strut, maybe a worn rag joint in the steering shaft. If the whole car shakes check the driveshaft for a missing weight. If its a stock driveshaft its junk anyway, get an aluminum piece.

I had a bad vibe at 75-80, entire car shook. Turned out to be the driveshaft.

I've had same problem before. I replace the rack and pinion (steering rack) with the inner tie rods attached. The cost was $78.
