Why wasn't I murdered? (Long version)
 

I accept that some of you may call BS on this, or say that the other guy let off...and youcould be right on both counts. At any rate, today, I raced two Camaros. Strange, as I've had like two races in the last two years. Now when I say race, I'm talking about short stoplight battles. Anyway, the first was a (mid?) 90s convertible,5 speed, Z28. We raced in second from a roll, and I was3/4sof a length ahead by the beginning of fourth. I was slow on the gun so he started out slightly ahead, but I still got around him easily.

I was surprised, but not nearly as a few hours ago when I raced a late model SS...the most recent body style,I believe. I was ready to be killed. He had been trying to race me for two stoplights previous, and when it was finally safe, I turned down the radio, and got ready to get destroyed. The light changed.Neither of us launched really..just left hastily. Then we both did that thing where you just kind of hover in first, winding it out a bit, uncertain of whether the other person really wants to race, but ready in case they do. My reflexes were primed and as soon as I heard him jump on it, I did too. We both left rubber...and loudly. In first, we were at least even, but I swear I was ahead by a hair. By the end of second, my front bumper was lined up with his passenger door...about midway. He seemed like he had more second gear than I because when I scrambled to get thirdto keep from redlining, he was still pulling hard in second...really hard. As soon as I got in third, I shut it down and braked for the next light. I imagine he'd have pulled away completely in third. I don't think he was holding back...obviously I don't know for sure though. I think his gears were taller, as he was in first and second forever. Now, my car feels real fast...but I know it's not. My question is simple. Why wasn't I murdered from the start?

all the camaros that i have raced atleast the newer ones didnt pull hard in first gear. they build most of there power from second on. atleast thats the way it was when i raced the camaro. i lost the race but i could beat him through first and that was it.

i raced a 90's camaro from a 15 role so i was in first w/ 2.73 so i was at 40 in a flash but once i hit second he started to pull on me. thats when i hit the nitrous but if i wouldnt have he woulda beat me. soooo i dont know maybe you had a honda pushing on your bumper from behind [8D]
