ORIGINAL: samseed101

I can eat a Mach1 alive, and that's without using my nitrous. Nice car, but I'd still take a modded 1995 or earlier car over it anyday.

I don't think so.

There are stock blocked Machs making 500+ but they are on borrowed time. If its bang for the buck, 5.0 is the easier way to go IMO.

i talked to a guy tonight w/ a marauder w/ vortech with 10lbs, 450rwhp, 4.10's and he ran 12.28.
he said 450rwhp is the safe max point on stock blocks, more than that and its borrowed time.

Well, for the amt of money I'd spend on just purchasing a mach, I could totally rip a 94-95 5.0 into shape into exactly what I want it to be.I think I will look for a stock or nearly stock 5.0 and spend a butt load of money tricking it out Thanks everyone!

Too bad I'd have to spend money rebuilding an engine unless I can find one that's been babied and doesn't have a buttload of miles on it..that's the drawback to such an older car.

I don't think you know samseed's car very well!!![&:] what he fails to mention is that his is not completely stock.....think what he means is he can eat one alive without using his NOS because on top of that his is suppercharged and putting out over 400 rwhp so yes he would blow the doors off a mach1 without using the nos

Having owned both...and when I say modded 5.0, my LX was built well. On motor it was a 12.20-12.30 car with gt-40 gear, e-cam, longtubes, and 4.10's on slicks...when I sold it, it had the stock cam back in and an SQ making @ 10lbs of boost.

Stock for stock...no competition. The mach kills the 5.0 in every category. Handling, braking, acceleration, comfort, etc...

Now...my 12.20 combo in the coupe would have easily handled a stock Mach in acceleration.

However. I have worked with a good friend of mine on his Mach build up. He took a stock Mach and made it a 12.06 @ 112mph car with the following bolt ons and a tune...
1.) kooks long tubes with catted x and bassani cat-back
2.) built rear with 4.30's
3.) slicks/skinnies
4.) KN cai
5.) PHP Intake spacer
6) Eibach drag springs with tokiko adjustable FRONT struts (rear shocks were stock)
7.) Boxed lower control arms
8.) weld-in subframe connectors.
9.) Pro50 shifter
10.) Electric water pump.

Now...that was 310rwhp and 340rwtq...

He has since gone to cams and the fr500 intake and is in the process of tuning it...

The Mach gives you more to start with. BUT...you run into the wall much faster than with a fox. A basic H/C/I combo with a blower on a forged piston fox will get you deep into the 11's without much drama. You can add the blower to the Mach and go faster, but you are on borrowed time with the Hyper-u-craptic pistons and powder cast rods...

and by the way...when it was time to choose...I kept the MACH...and that is from someone who adores the foxes...
