Default Low mileage car with clunk in differential when making turns

My1989 Notchhas only 24k miles on it, the rear diff is making noise/clunking when I make turns, it seems to be more pronouncedthe longer it's driven, straight line driving is fine. Is it possible the clutches are sticking, I have run into this with the "other" pony car in the past and have added "their" posi-additive and made tight figure 8's to work it in, eliminating the clunk. Is this possibly common with the 8.8 also.If so should I try the Ford friction modifier.thanks Tim

Probably wouldn't hurt to change the oil if it has never been changed. To do that you must remove the rear cover so just give everything a good looking over while your in there. Also use some synthetic oil. most synthetic oils come with friction modifier already in the mix.

i had a similar problem with my rear end. i broke somthing at the strip and after that it was spinning one wheel. i needed a new unit. try doing a burn out. if only one tire spins than your need to rebuild or get a new unit like the detroit trutrac. i could not see that happening with your low milage car tho but then again maybe it just broke.

I run synth AND modifier... 81,000 miles, no problems, and 2 wheel peels.

i would change the fluid and add friction modifier. go with royal purple 75 140 syn it comes with the friction modifier in it already its really good stuff. also are you sure its only 24k and not 124k?

Hi I am 100% it hasgot only 24k miles, I put the friction modifier in, any idea how long it takes for the modifier to seep/soak into the clutches? I hope that does it... [sm=gears.gif]

Did you change the fluid and put in the modifier, or did you just add modifier to your existing fluid???

Find an empty parking lot and slowly do several figure eight's to get the clutches to work in the fluid. (and I don't mean burnouts..)

if you just added the modifier you wasted your time and $$$$
