These wheels on your 87?
That is what I have on my 87 with the Lincoln/SVO front and rear disk conversion to use the ordinary caps you will have to use the 94 or newer front, or you could try to be creative like I did.
The extra inch they say you gain from the 98 spindles may actually help your clearance on full lock turns. I put a 5/16" spacer on my front. It gave me inner wheel well clearance but still not enough to use the center cap. It also made the front track match the rear offset of the disk conversion.
I am running 245/45 - 17 front and rear with no rubbing. You will more than likely rub the front opening of the wheel well with the stock 87 fender extentions on your GT. I am using the 91 - 93 Saleen front valance on my car. With the stock 87 LX fender extension the 94 16" pony wheels rubbed.
BEFORE anyone chimes in and says you have to get 91 - 93 fenders - NO YOU DON"T! All I did was remove the fender extension since the Saleen valance covered that part and not only did the valance fit better the wheels didn't rub. All you need is the 91 - 93 GT fender extension it is shaped different and will provide you the most clearance you can get. They will fit your 87 fenders as the sheet metal is the same dimension as the 91 - 93 fenders.
Use this link and look near the bottom of the thread where dimebag posted a picture of his 88GT and Whitefoxgt’s 93 gt that he had. It is a great picture showing the difference.
