gear install opinions
just got quoted $450 to have my gears installed
the guy seemed really stubburn about the carrier. he said it can only accept so many gear changes? i told him what i would provide him with would bolt in no problem but he insisted i keep "researching" before going ahead.
i am gunna buy the summit kit.
what do u guys think?

RE: gear install opinions
That is steep for gear install. I would suggest you get the FRPP gears though. I might also be a little leary of letting this guy do the work with what he has told you. I do my own, and have not had problems before.

Don't say I didn't warn you about the Richmond gears. I'm giving you an opportunity to correct your mistake way earlier then I did.
I paid $200 for my install. I had to pay $84 for new bearings and a new seal and that's it.

Buy FRPP gears andbuy the FRPP install kit (all the bearings and seals for the whole rear). That will set your back 291$....but its worth every penny. As far as the install...it should only pay about 2.5hrs, 450$ is a rip. I do all my gears myself. Its nice to have all the right tools however..

6hrs? Damn..
I not 100% sure what we pay at my work (Carman Ford) but I know it isnt that much. I'd hear about the techs being happy to see another Crown Vic rear.. I can knock out new bearings/seals and a ring/pinion job in 2hrs.

RE: gear install opinions
2 hours if you are lucky enough to hit the correct pinionshim on the first or second try. FRPP and Motivegears in my opinion are the easiest set up. As long as you stay away from4.30 ratio. For some reason everytime I try to set up a 4.30I end up taking a day to get it close and it still howls. I charge $200if the customer buys FRPP or Motive and it's not a 4.30.
