Default ATTN Mechanics need a quote

Typical labor rate around my parts (longisland) are between 65-95$ an hour, shop i go to i get a discount for 65$ and most shops are 85$

any ways...

I was thinking about buying a 85GT, I love 4 eyes... it already has gears and it has a t-5 instead of the ****ty AOD and stock 2.73s... but i am quite unsure of howa carb'd car would be from day to day, i was wondering if you guys could lemme kno parts and labor for switching from carb to a EFI system....

personaly, id take it to an older mechanic and have him properly tune the car. Us young mechanics were never taught carbs, but theres still alot of old mech's that would love to get there hands on a carb.

Well id love to learn the principles of tuning a carb but i dun want to have to tune it like everyday... my bro went from EFI to carb, and i think he might have all the old wires and computer laying around somewhere.... so if i get this car id def wanna switch.

You wont find a mechanic to do a carb to efi. To much work involved( I think). Personally I would leave it alone. I live on long island as well man. The only place I could think of doing what you ask is sp classics. http://www.spclassicsltd.com/main.html Who says you have to tune it everyday. One of my teachers drives a 68 olds 442 he brings it at least 1once a week to school. I could see tuning it everyday if you moved allot out of long island. Long island is flat man pretty much. All you have to do is tune it once since the altitude isn't changing.

As long as the carb is in good working condition you shouldn't need to much tuning.

****... there is ALOT of work involved in doing that... id guess your gonna look at 20 hours or so of labor... thats just a guess, i might be low...

i know personally if someone wanted me to do that for them, and provided all the parts, it still charge atleast $500... and i mean doing it out in my back yard... not at my work(i have no idea what the shop i work at would charge for that, i imagine a good 2k???)hell... its alot dude thats for sure

my advice, stay carbed, get a good carb, and the correct size, dont over carb it... get it tuned by a good mech. and read up on carbs some, so if it needs any adjustment you can do it yourself

MAN bon't basterdize that 85 by making it fuel injected!!! if you want a 4 eyed fuelie buy an 86 gt!!! and a 85 carbed car is great I have one and tuned right which is not all that hard it'll run great...I still have some fine tuning to do on the cruise circuit/mode of my carb simple squirter changes for light flat spots in the cruise mode I got.......I'll do it if I stop playing with the WOT mode!!!! cause that's where it's all at!!!!
