dissapointment and a question
Well we got a big problem... The front sub frame on the 86 is rotted. We missed it untill it was on the lift and now it is clear that this body just ain't worth saving. So we listed it for sale but i am not sure we can get what we want for it. I did do some hunting and found a rust free shell on Cregs. It is a 88 GT hatch orginal 5.0 5 speed. The owner tore it apart sandblasted and primed it. he por 15ed the underside after sand blasting. he also added sub frame conecters( weld in's)and battle boxes
So what i was wondering:
How hard would it be to swap the 5.0/t5 from the 86 into the 88?
did the 88's have MAF or where they still TB?
Would everything pretty much bolt up?
Thanks for all the help
Rust sucks......................

RE: dissapointment and a question
88 would not have been MAF unless it was a california car. But if I understand what you have come across, all you have is an 88 shell. So you should not have a problem putting your 86 equipment in it as your are going to move everything together, correct?

RE: dissapointment and a question
no not much changed and the swap wouldnt be all that extensive, although your 86 is speed density, and the 88 is wired for MAF, so that would need to be addresed if the MAF didnt come with the shell. but nothing thats to bad.

and sd ftmfw!!!!! ?????????
Well i am just trying to figure what our best course of action would be. The motor and trans in the 86 are solid and work very well. The swap seems like it would be almost bolt in.
here are some options:
1) sell the 86 for its motor and trans and possibly make alittle money.
then use that and the money i would spend on the shell to by a much nicer stang
2) do the motor swap and paint the shell and have a rust free running car cheap. But my gagre is full and my freind has no real place to put both cars. Rember this is his project i am just helping
3) drop the motor and trans into his 95 2wd ranger
