Default Correct shifting on AOD

What is the correct way to shift with an automatic.
I usually start in 1st go in drive and end in overdrive D when over 60mph.
Someone told me about 1st actually becomes second at a certain RPM and you can shift down to 1st to pass etc.
If so how do you know if your in first or second.?

well if you wanna control the shifts while racing leave it in first and do teh 1-d-1 shift, really fast once you get to where you wanna shift thatll keep the car in second till you put it back to D

if your car doesnt have a manual valve body then do yourself a favor and put it in Over Drive (or in Drive while in the city if you prefer...) and leave it alone. your car will appreciate it and will prolly perform better since it doesnt really need to be held in a gear longer than it does on its own. unless you have put a new cam or something else that really raised your power band it'll do fine on its own.

Makes me glad that my 5 speed swap is soon approaching this week!

If you are running at the track you are going to need to do the 1-D-1 shuffle, if not enjoy the car shifting from 2nd to 3rd immediately.

see i never had any problem like that with either of my AOD's. they shifted when they were supossed to. maybe ur tv cable wasn't adjusted properly.... "do's or don'ts" for the swap? have lots of patience and beer. or at least just for the pedals. everything else is pretty much a breeze
