My car currently has cats on it, any one here from PA and would know if the car would pass emissions if I took them off and just welded straight pipes?
go to an auto auction in your area and buy yourself a beater car for $500. if you put 5000 miles or less on the car between inspections, you're emissions exempt in pa and you can run straight pipes if you want. or, if you wanna be really sneaky about it, you can remove the speedo gear from the trans and your odometer will stop counting and keep yourself under 5000 miles . you'll have to get used to driving w/o a speedometer though. not that i've ever done this myself [&:]
It's not that simple. The car is still not allowed to pass the saftey inspection without the cats either. I know, I am a licensed PA inspection and Emission inspector. The only way to get it to pass would be if you a buddies with someone who will close their eyes.
hmmmm. perhaps it was just my mech. that didn't care then. he told me to just keep the car under 5k miles and i'd be ok. but, i'm going back a few years to my first stangso it may have changed since then.
