So let me get this straight. Stock vs. stock a GTA can or can't beat me. Both of us being autos. I've been doing some research and sounds like these GTA's were pretty BA. I don't know what I'am missing.

First make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The Iroc and The GTA usually came with a 350. Your mustang Comes with a 302. That is almost a 14% difference in displacement.

Now in all fairness If you take your mustang and put a stock 351W in it. You would have them hands down. Because you would change the advantage over to your side. Camaros weigh more.

you have an 89 5.0 right? is it stick or auto GT or LX, Vert, coupe or notch? and what are your mods?

I may be wrong, but I remember people talking about the 305 Camaros having a 3.73 gear from the factory. If this is true, then we are comparing a Camaro with more cubic inches and a 3.73 gear against a Mustang with less cubes and a highway gear. Again Not apples to apples if this is true.

I have a 895.0 5 speed and when all I had was 3.73's, full exhaust from headers back, short shifter,c/a/i, electric fan, and no smog, cats or ac. I would beat my friends 98 lt1 6 speed with c/a/i anda catbackby2 cars, his dads 93 lt1 auto byabout 3 cars, and would completly tear apart any stock motored 3rd gen.

Yes, it's a 89 5.0 autocoupe. The only mod. Ive done is CAI and keep up with the regular maintenance. So it runs great with 43,000 miles.

Thats your reason, its a stock auto. I have 2 friends with 5.0 sn95 mustangs that are both stockone with auto and one with a5 speed car and itwill rip the auto car by a couple cars easily

I was with you untill you said 98 LT1. 98's have an LS1 and even with what you had an LS1will hand you your ***. Back to the original question. A 5.7 autobox I-ROC and GTA (Pontiacs version of the same car) came stock with 245hpAND more torque AND a better gear. I test drove a brand new 92 hatchback inthe day and from a dead stop without powerbraking the ties wouldn't even make a mousefart. Those 350 cars would litem' up by just jumping on it from a stop. You need 410's, K&N filtercharger or CAI, headers with H-pipe, and pulley's. The same settup with the T-5 and 355's will own those things. You just happen to have a bone stock version of a very poorly performing automatic that's outgunned in the HP department. I'm just surprised they only get you by two cars. I've driven at least 10 of those GTA I-ROCS over the years and they are considerably quicker than a bone stock 92 auto hatch. Don't sweat it, spend a grand and a half and take them down...;-)
