Thinkin about a 5.0
Hey Guys. Been a lurker on this forum for quite a while now. Here is the deal. Me and my fiance had a house fire a few weeks ago that burnt up my pride and joy. A 1990 Chevy 454SS that I have owned for 11 years and have personally turned and finger ****** nearly every nut and bolt on the truck. I stripped the trucked to bare metal, shave and flipped the tailgate handle, stake body holes, antenna, trim holes, blah blah blah and painted. Built a solid cammed 454 and was in the process of building a 496 stroker motor for. Well the plan was to restore the truck after the fire and I've even aquired an interior and other parts for. As I looked at the truck today, I think I' ve decided that I dont have that in me again. I'm thinking I want a 5.0 litre mustang, an LX, preferably a notch(but not willing to pay the premium everyone wants). My brother had a 91 GT when I was in High School that I fell in love with. In want something I can drive and build at the same time as well as whoop up on some of the rice around Myrtle Beach in the process. I plan on taking it off the road for a short time to paint after I do body work and priming while driving the thing. I want to run low 11 sec. passes with a five speed in order to beat a few ricers locally that I know of. I want to keep 5-speed cuz the popular racing spot is a 4 lane highway and speed ranges from 30 MPH roll to 150mph. Should I plan on putting a Windsor in it or do you think I can meat my goals with a 331/347.

a stock 302 (it is a windsor) with gt40 heads/intake + alpha cam will whoop up on alot of cars on the street
if you're looking for track goals you need to kind of get more specific such as carb or efi, etc..
with mods i specified above you can expect to run low 13's with decent suspension and gearing.

I want it to be fuel injected but realize I'm gonna have to buy new intake, injectors etc. I want to keep A/C and other luxury items and run good numbers. I have some $$$ to do this. I want to spend 3-4K on the car and another 5-15K over the period of a year or two to meet this goal. P.S. 13 sec 1/4 mile time will beet 85-90% of rice around here. It's the other 10-15% i'm hunting.

347 stroker, low compression pistons, a nice supercharger, a little spray.
All of these equal up to a quick car, for 1/4 of the price of a cobra or any other modern sports car.
