331 Build-up.

RE: Pick up the 331 tomorrow!!!
Well I just got back from the engine builder. The shortblock looks awesome. It is still wrapped up in the plastic wrap but it goes up on the engine stand for plugs and paint tomorrow. This is the second engine I have bought from my engine builder and he does awesome work. The reason I don't build it myself is because I have to go through the hassels of measuring everything, and getting it all balanced and blueprinted. Plus this engine is completely new, no used or "seasoned" parts. Here are a couple pics of it's arrival home.
The rest of the build consists ofTF heads with a stage 2 port job (got from engine builder) a custom ground cam, Performer II or Holley Intake, etc...
It will be dyno tuned on the dyno jet at their shop where I had the car dyno'd before. The 331 will be going into the 94. The 91 was sold a few years ago, butI still race the 91, I just don't own it anymore. I'm the 'mechanic'. Well what do you guys think? It is going to be a fun street car. After the new engine is in (around X-mas) the car goes in for new paint. I can't wait. I will keep adding photo's as the build progresses.

In the Valley.. Valencia area. Not far from Six Flags Magic mountain. Cali emissions really bite, but it's not what you know, it's who you know.

RE: Pick up the 331 tomorrow!!!
The typical 347piston has less material under the crown area.More likely to 'squish' the top ringland and break.
I prefer the longer skirt, the 331 piston provides.
The only 347 I would consider for true street cars is a 1.175" piston and a 5.315" rod.
The vast majority of engine builders can not set-up the '4th ringland' difference, properly.
Then you have piston rock as an issue...
