rpm's work fine but the speedometer gave up

rpm's work fine but the speedometer gave up
One dayI left the key on and my battery died soI jumped it and let it run for a hour. I thinkI run the car for to long in one sitting becuase it was running really hot so hot my windows fogged up : P. SoI shut it off and when i went to drive it the next day my speedometer was not working but the rpm's still do.Did i fry something? And how would i go about fixing this.
