Default CAMS AND ROCKER ARMS

Am wondering what to buy for roller rockers. What is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7 ratios. Which work better. I assume 1.7 open valves more? Perhaps too much? Would these be for 2.02 heads?

Also am going to start reading up on cam selection. Can anyone recommend a good cam for a forged piston motor with medium (9.0:1) compression. Aluminum head, fuel injected, upgraded injectors and fuel system?

any thoughts are appreciated.

thx

You are correct in that 1.7 rockers will open the valves more than 1.6s. By how much depends on your cam. Multiply your lobe lift by the rocker number to get your total lift. Random example: .275 lobe lift * 1.7 rocker ratio = .468 total lift.

Cam selection will depend on a few major factors. Are you running a 5 speed, or an automatic tranny. If five speed you have alot of choices without buying an aftermarket stall etc..... If an auto car you will have a very limited selection unless you want to go with a higher gear ratio (4.10 for example) and an after market torque converter in the 2500 rpm range and up. But from what I have researched the 303 series Ford camshafts are real good bumpsticks. We need more info on your setup to be more exact.

Actually most people will tell you the alphabet cams are outdated and there are many other cams available for a given combo. What kind of car do you have? If it's a Cobra you already have Crane 1.7 roller rockers.

i know this isnt the cheapest way but just get a custom cam made for ur application.
atleast that way ur practically gauranteed that it'll work with the stuff you already have.

Where are custom cams an option? I don't know of any place around where I live where I can get one. Can you mail order a custom? and if so where is the best place?
