Default RE: horsepower estimate?

its called drivetrain loss dip****, go cry about it

my rule of thumb ive been taught is you lose a little less than 50 on both through a manual, a littler more with A/T but ive also heard 15 percent

the machs engine dynoed at 400 to the flywheel, dynoed 310 to the rear...

DEAL WITH IT

and im guessing that your engine a little rustier than it once was and thus is not running at full potential, my guess is even with mods your probably making about 220 at most to the flywheel, which is about 160ish at the wheel...

sorry, 170, im being stupid, 170/240 is what i shoulda said, i kindof just threw out a number..

Well then you need to read my post again. I said that the car might have made 210hp at the flywheel (when it was new) now it probably makes less. You lose quite a bit of HP through the drivetrain, so your car actually made around 170-175hp at the wheels/to the pavement when new. Now that it is 22 years old, it is probably making somewhere in the range of 160-165 to the pavement. Then you threw on WAY TOO BIG of a carb on it, so you are probably losing HP with that, so I would guess you are making 150ish hp at the wheels right now.

Of course, this is coming from someone who has only built about six 5.0 mustangs in my lifetime, so take it or leave it.

umm, i believe my car iw 2800 lbsish, im assuming yours is in the 2900-3k range, because its a vert, so, if he was in a civic, he was definately lighter...

but even with the huge carb, your probably making a hundred more horsepower...

Absolutely right. A 750cfm carb is overkill on any standard bore 302. Especially with stock heads and cam. He is def. losing HP with that carb.

No problem, that's what we are here for. But just make sure to read the posts thoroughly and if you don't 100% understand what is being said, then ask about it, don't tell us to research because 99% of the guys on here are aware of the stock production HP numbers of all the Fox cars.

Stick around for a while, and you will learn all you need to know. First thing's first, ditch that huge carb.
