Default 88 gt vs. 94 gt

I own a stock 94 gt and recently bought a stock 88 gt. The 88 will blow the doors off my 94. Both are 5 speeds with similar gearing. I looked up the hp specs for both years and the 94 is rated at 10 hp less. What is different? Did all mustang gts get doggy with the new 94 bodystyle or is there something wrong with mine?

Depends.... tell us more about your 94. Miles, work done, etc. So far it sounds like something wrong.

Also keep in mind the 94-ups are also heavier than the Fox bodies.

Yeah the SN's weigh more in most cases, but all thing being equal the two cars should be close. Did you actaully race them or are you going by the seat of the pants? Maybe the 94 just needs basic maniantence work (fliuds, filters, igniton, tire pressure, etc.)

if its seat of the pants, then the 88 should feel faster. the interiors of the 94s and up are much better than the foxes... and If I remember, they ride much smoother, \

but then again, my theory could be wrong

I agree with shelty 100%. The Fox bodies just feelreally "raw" compared to the 94s.

Maybe your 88 has some internal engine work like heads or a cam, stuff you can't see, but it looks stock.

Maybe you are feeling the extra weight in the SN-95 compared to the Fox.

Or maybe your 88 is a factory freak. There are some cars out there that are noticeably faster than they should be from the factory.

I know what you mean, both my 86 (when it worked) and my 91 have their share of squeaks and rattles, and you feel every bump in the road...damn stock suspension... If I can afford it, I really want to get better springs/shocks this summer
