87 to 93 GT fog light question

This is a question I have been wondering for a very long time and since buying my 88 GT that has the fog lights removed I have to ask why do people remove the fog lights on their GT's?

Most people remove them because the bar they mount on is also a bumper support and is pretty heavy peice of steel and a easy way to remove weight.

because they break often, you can loose a lot of weight off the front end of the car.. I took mine off years ago

So people remove the bumper support? or replace it with a lighter substitute?
