You are just doing the engine? Do you have any speific goals? Drag racing, road racing, street performance etc. Carb or efi? Daily driver?

I'm asking what YOU would do with it. My plans are street performance and occasionally taking it to the track. I haven't decided between efi or carb yet. I think carb because it would be easier to tune and cheaper.

I would get a 347 kit with flat tops. I am an AFR fan, so I would get some 185s with 58cc chambers for about 10.5-10.8:1 compression.I'd go with aComp Cams XE 274 or282. For an intake I would go with a Victor Jr. and a 650-750 cfm carb. This set up is good for 400+ rwhp N/A on pump gas.You should be able to do this for $5000.

Throw the block away you have and buy a Dart or Boss block that will resist the cracking known to the stockers.

I prefer supercharged fuel injected myself, a little bit more streetable and less frequent tuning, but your right about carb and all motorbeing much cheaper and if emissions are not a concern too you then go for it. 92Grey's setup sounds about right id just make it a comp stroker cam instead and i guarantee you will be able to find a carb single plane manifold cheap somewhere easily.

it may be cheaper but EFI would take you longer and by that i mean distance wise.
