Default what is the max torque that should be run on a stock drivetrain?

I am sure it is posted here before, but i did a search and cant find it. what is the most HP and torque that can be run on a stock tranny and rear? 5 spd 8.8 on a 87-93 gt? i am looking to get near the 400hp mark at the rear wheels and was wondering when i will need to upgrade the transmission if i need to. if someone has a link to another post that would be great also. thanks

300 ft lbs...(stock) haha like mjr said depends how hard you launch! I have seen them blow stock but then seen them hold up to 400 ft lbs for a long time when driven correctly

I sheard the blocking rings off first gear and exploded both axles out of the housing at Old Diminion raceway two years back with my 88 GT. Stock T5 tranny, stock 8.8 rear with 4.56 gears, 303rwhp/320 rwtq, leaving the line at 7000 rpms on a 26x10.5" Tire.

I would say a stock 5.0 drivetrain will hold-up to roughly 450-500 hp on the street with "street tires" and around 250-300 at the track with slicks. Stock T5s are junk and don't take much abuse. Get a tremec tranny out of the 93-95 cobra's or swap to a 600 series or a G-force version. The rear-end you shouldn't worry about too much unless your going to the track. Then I would suggest upgrading the axels to stronger ones like the factory replacement 28 spline mosers or superior.

Either way GOOD LUCK !
