building a 347 on a stock block?
when I get close to graduating college, I want to build a 347 stroker for my convertible, and back it with a viper spec T56...
(its MY graduatuon present ot myself)
would building a 347 on a stock block be a good idea, or should I invest in a Dart or Boss block? I want to make close to 400hp while keeping it natuarally aspirated, but leave it open for a supercharger., I love that whine
would a supercharger be a good thing on a 347? I dont know much about strokers...

RE: building a 347 on a stock block?
the general rule is do one or the other because a stock block cant handle both.
with my old motor i was going to supercharge it but i was only expecting around 350-360rwhp with boost friendly compression. with a procharger or vortech i was hoping for 500-550rwhp

I'll tell you what Woody at ford strokers told me....quote un quote "If you have to spend 4500.00 plus and buy a boss or dart block to make 400 hp and be okay then the whole ford racing world might as well come to an end"........400 hp and a stock block and you should be okay.....where you'll run into probs is if you try and throw boost on top of that and or a healthy shot of NOS

thanks guys, I know little about strokers other than they increase the stroke etc...
now all the oiling problems Ive heard about with the 347 have been corrected right?

ya all but one thing with the 347 has been corrected and cant be unless you go with an aftermarket block, the rod geometry is a little off in them and to free up some horse power and gain engine life you bore .40 over i belive it is instead of .30 over and you run slightly less stroke still making a 347 CID motor but putting the correct geometry back into the motor. but unless your trying to make 700+ horse power your fine with the 347, but like everyone esle says anyting with 450-500 and the stock block is a ticking time bomb

yeah, all I want to do is get close to 400 hp, enough power to spank almost anything I run into, but still docile enough to drive on the street without much trouble, hence the 6 speed, that lower final drive ratio would help me with my commuting lol.
but this build wont happen until I am out of college, still would need to score another block, clean it up, get all the kit, the top end etc... the small stuff, like the brackets, P/S A/C, alt etc, would be swapped over, hell maybe even a tubular kmember, and some coil overs, make that thing the ultimate corner carver( which is more fun than drag sometimes IMO. have to wait until I actually make some good money in my future career, get some garage space (my own house) and some more mechanical skill...

then you shouldnt need a supercharger, a 10:5 compression 347 should get you up to the 400 horsepower range quite easily with a decent N/A setup

93 or would 87 be fine?
(still learnin)
doesnt a stock 5.0 make a 9:0 or 9:1 compression?
