Default tri state gt40p heads

Hello everyone I am getting my quarterly bonus from work soon and I think I am going to buy a set of gt40p heads from tri state cylinder heads. I have already changed the intake and exhaust side of the engineso I think this would be a good upgrade, what do you guys think? Do I have to send my old heads in for a a core? I shouldn't have to change the valve springs should I?, all opinions welcome.

Thanks in advance ...Mike

as far as the valve springs go with a cam swap you always need to match the proper springs, locks and retainers to your cam choice......or if staying conservative depending on what springs they sell with their heads you need to have the spring pressures at open and closed tested and compared to what the cam requires....if you just shot gun this process.. then be preparred for a wasted effort cause if spring pressure is to little the valves will float and you'll never reach the full potential of the new rpm power band your cam has to offer

Thanks mjr46, I will be keeping the stock cam, this car is just a nice weather cruiser for me and the wife that we like tohave fun with. I am just looking for some decent power and not a full on drag car. Do you think these heads would be worth the money and effort to put on my car? I am running a 94Cobra intake, K&N, shorty headers and exhaust.

Thanks ...Mike

yeah they will be an improvement over stock and I don't know what your paying for them but if your spending anywhere close to a 300.00 dollar diff away from aluminum heads then I'd chalk up the extra for aluminum heads...my rule is for heads if I have to spend more than half the costfor a set of cast iron heads..I just chalk up the little extra for aluminum heads....but if your spending around 500 then it'll be worth it expecially if you can do your own work

I will be installing the heads myself, luckily for me I have been working on 5.0's for over 20 years so I have alot of experience with them. The price on the heads is around 600 plus shipping, then throw in gaskets, headbolts, etcand the price will jump up pretty quickly. I have been entertaining the thought of aluminum heads, gt40x's to be exact but I am leary of the cost and stripping out bolt holes for headers, intake, etc. Thoughts?

I have afr 185's on my 85 and the motor is out right now awaiting the arrival of a 347 but I have had the heads off more times than I care to mention and never once have I stripped a hole...follow proper torque sequence and specs and it shouldn't be much of an issue...I've installed a fair amount of aluminum heads on customers cars and never have had such a problem....

Sounds good, so what do you think of the gt40x heads?, I am trying to retain as many Ford parts as possible under the hood. I found a place that has a kit that includes the headsand everything needed to install them for about 1100 bucks. Thanks again.
