If you're not making enough power, leave it alone. Plus it depends on how your current set up works for you now.

Yeah, going to a 28" tire.
really why? wouldnt that be defeating the purpose of the 3.73 to 4.30 gear change? I don't really understand. [:o]
No, the reason being, if I stayed w/ 26" tires, I'd run out of rpm before the end of the track. The 4.30's will get me lower 60', the taller tires, better traction (more sidewall wrinkle) and a lower rpm through the traps. Sounds good in theory, have to put it to the test this spring. I used a rpm/speed/tire calulator to figure it out on. Hopefully it will be correct.

I wonder if I should do that; 4.30 gears/28" tires, Instead of the 4.10 gears/26" tires. I also heard about when you put on 28" tires with your 3.73 gears and it slowed you down a couple tenths.. I dont really wnat that to happen. What do you think?

it slows you down because when you put a bigger tire on your car it lowers the rpms you run at (its basically like putting on a smaller gear set)

low 13's in the 1/4 mile maybe? that enough power or still leave it alone.

Well, it depends on trap speed/rpm. Use the calculator I posted and see where you come in at w/ your current #'s then plug in the new tire size and gear ratio.

Speed (MPH) 104
Gear Ratio* 4.10:1
Tire Diameter 26

ENGINE RPM 5510

Speed(MPH) 104
Gear Ratio* 4.30
Tire Diameter 28

How much power are you making, if less than 350, I would stay w/ the 4.10/26. Even w/ the 4.30's, you still gotta have the power to turn over them taller tires.

Here's where I am now

117.97 mph
3.73
26"
5687rpm

W/ the new set up

117.97
4.30
28"
6087rpm

Pretty much where I wanna be, I hope!!:D

Hopefully I have 300rwhp. It hasnt seen the strip or dyno yet, pretty much because its winter.. so stick with the 26"/4.10's? I did see one guy at the track with a stock 460 in his fox. ran 13 flat with 28"/4.10's so iunno. Hopefully you get 11's!!!

RE: So I just ordered a set of 4.30's

I have had dealings withthree sets of Motive 4.30s and everyone of them whined. Two sets were in customer cars and one set was in my own. I will never put another set in a street car again. I worked on them until my fingers were bleeding trying to get the tooth pattern so that they wouldn't whine. Shim changes only changed when and how loudthey whined, it didn't stop them from whining. I went to 4.56s and 4.10s, they were no problem. I just can't seem to catch a break with 4.30s. Are you putting them in yourself? Good luck!

Try 4.56 w/ a 28" tall tire. It be a like running a 4.20 rear gear setup with 26" tall tire. You could probably get away with 4.30's and 26" tall tire if you car is n/a.
