Default 1987 LX Info

Me and a friend are looking to buy a 1987 GT LX from a salvage yard. The car was repo'd on Jan. 24, 2007. The guy does not have the keys to the car. It has not been started in almost a year I am assuming. It looks as if someone tried to hotwire the car, because the wires by the ignition are hanging out. The interior is not clean at all, but not beyond repair. No major damage, mostly just stains and odor. The car has no radio or battery. The car has what looks like oxidation on some parts of the top of the engine. Mostly looks like he either cleaned it with a really strong solution or it was parked next to a pool or something for a decent amount of time. It has some rust around the pulleys, and the A/C pump is very rusted. I believe the EGR is rusted, but I'm not 100% sure. The headers on the passenger side looked fine, but there was oil around the valve covers on the driver side. The water pump looked ok, and there was no fluid on it. We could not see under the car because there was a decent amount of grass all around it. I HIGHLY doubt the car has been started or moved in at least 12 months. The front tires are flat, and I am assuming the back may be dry rotted. The exhaust looked fine from the back, but there was a pipe right above the exhaust on the passenger side that was not connected to anything and just open? Not sure why?

The guy did not have a price for the car and told us to offer him. KBB says $1,400 excellent, $1,200 good, $925 fair, N/A poor. I would say it's in poor / fair condition. Thinking if we decide to buy it to offer $600 and go in $300 a peice.

Any input? If any more information is needed, I'll do my best to answer to the best of my knowledge. Thanks in advance.

To be honest I'd pass, you can find cars in much better condition for $1000-$1500. Sounds like this car is gonna be ahuge money pit.

If you can get it for 600 bucks I would do it, but be prepared to spend a lot of cash to get it they way you want it.

pictures?

No pictures, but I can make a run out there tomorrow or in the coming days to get some.

The guys selling it do seem pretty shady. One guy said that if we needed any engine parts he could part out another 5.0L engine he had. I looked at the engine in the car and asked him to see the other engine to compare. The guys partner said whats wrong with this engine, it runs perfectly fine. I still want to know how he could possibly know that since they do not have the keys. There is no battery in the car, the front tires are flat. It obviously hasn't been moving that much. We got to the donor car, a V8 Thunderbird, only to find out it was a 4.6L and not a 5.0L. I truly think if me and my friend did not know about cars he would have tried to part this car out to us.

The guy continued to reiterate that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car, and all of the people that I'm assuming either work or live on the 'lot' were hovering around us at one point when they jimmied the door open.
