X pipes will be more of a raspier and a higher pitched sound , where as the H pipe will be mor of a deeper and throatier sounding.

But then again;
The X pipe gives you more miniscule amount more HP and it's quieter at idle, but then loud and raspy at WOT.
Where H pipe is a deeper and louder at idle and rumble's at WOT.

i get compliments all the time with my x pipe, and never did with my h pipe. take that how you want to. personally i love the sound of my x pipe.

Mufflers are a big part of the sound. But mid pipes and headers do make a sound difference as well.
