Can I paint brand new headers?
I'm getting some brand new shortys tommorow and was wondering if it would be ok to paint them. I know when you install new headers, at least ones that aren't chrome (mine arent) they will smoke quite a bit when you first start you car. For some reason I am thinking that the headers will try and smoke and screw up the paint. Am I wrong about this???
These are the headers I am getting http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Any1 have any idea what makes these headers off-road.

They are "off-road" because they are not 50-state on-road legal. They are primarily meant for race tracks and drag strips, not for your local supermarket dash. I've seen people paint there headers only to have the heat from the exhaust burn it right back off after about 6 months. It flakes and cracks and looks horrible. Chrome ones will heat up and turn purple after about the same time (i think it looks cool). If given the right paint that can handle the high temps, red would be cool. So would custom airbrushed flames.

Yeah, you can paint them with high temp paint. Wipe them down to get any oil from your hands off. They're for off road use because it costs some $$$ to get things C.A.R.B. legal. Most places dont even look for the CARB sticker or plate.
