Piston Question
What type of piston is better for boost/nitrous...
Flat top or Dish? I remember reading somewhere where dish is better. I just want to make sure before I order anything... Thanks, Matt |
RE: Piston Question
Dish is better if your going to run gobs of boost, but flattops will work for both
|
RE: Piston Question
dish pistons make more power than flattop pistons when the dynamic compression ratio is kept the same.
|
RE: Piston Question
ok cool, I will probably end up getting dish.
Thanks |
RE: Piston Question
Dish, and go with the best piston you can buy. Diamond Racing Pistons FTW
|
RE: Piston Question
I was thinking about going with stroker kit from fordstrokers.
stroking my 69 351w to 393 or 408 :D I will look into the diamond racing pistons (Im waiting on my tax return to pay for it anyway) |
RE: Piston Question
id say it depends
dished pistons will give you less compression... which gives you the potential for more boost... but... nitrous likes compression... so for spray id get flat tops(w. valve reliefs ofcourse) then again id figure out what your comp ratio is now... figure out what it will be with the 2 different pistons your looking at and decide... nitrous or boost? and choose from there |
RE: Piston Question
thanks, I would like to keep my compression lower, so I will go with dish
|
RE: Piston Question
but find out what it will be before ordering parts
|
RE: Piston Question
I will, I am waiting on my tax return check, still havent got my one tax form in the mail... sigh
|
RE: Piston Question
ah gotcha gotcha, yea im waiting on 2 w2's also...i already have one... kinda need the other two to file, hopefully i get a return this year... itll go in the stang for sure
but g/l with it, let me know what u get hey why are you looking at pistons anyway? building a new block? or rebuilding yours? |
RE: Piston Question
My factory flat top pistons have over 161K on them. Many of those miles with 100hp worth of NOS!!
What size kit are you panning on using? It will be a pig off of the bottle if you run too low of compression. OK for a strip only car, not so good on the street!! |
RE: Piston Question
Yeah I am still waiting on one my w2's also...
I am going to build up a 351w stroked to 408 or 393 =) |
