Default Is it normal not to see any coolant in the resivior?

On my 87 there doesn't seem to be any coolant in the resivor can really tell because of that blue screen thing. But when I looked in the rad it seemed to be right to the top. I am just trying to be extra careful since my temp gauge is missing in action, it doesn't have a needle lol. If it is low is it normal for a car to have low coolant if there are no leaks and the oil level seems normal. I am just getting a bit stressed out about possible major problems since I have had a few large problems since I have bought this car.

My resevoir always seems empty, but my rad is always right at the top and a nice bright green colour. Also I have had my car since about april and have never had to top it up or change the coolant. But also my car never gets very hot so I am assuming thats why the resevoir never fills up.

screen thing? are u looking at the washer fluid(no offence) dont think the over flow has a screen like that, but the washer fluid does.... anway as long as ur rad is good yea

let it run w. the cap off when the t stat opens itll rise or drop... if it starts to rise put the cap back on, if it drops, fill it up

No offese takin about the washer fluid but, My cooant resivor has a blue screen. The washer fluid is up by the battery

I will try running it with the cap off and see what happens and make sure it is topped off. But now that I think about it the overflow shouldn't be full unless the car is a high temperature, Correct?

Ya I have a coolant light but it is not connected, I would connect it but I think someone snipped it because there is nothing connected to the cap and you can tell there was something once upon a time.
