The only way I would see a 331 being better than a 347 is if you are going to be turning it over 6500 rpm on a regular basis. Just as mjr46 said earlier the 347 side loads the block so at high horsepower levels andhigh rpm on a stock block it may help it live, again it's theory and just my opinion. With what you are planning to be doing a 347 is the way to go.
