Engine ideas. 302 or 331? Heads?
I've got a 93 Cobra and it's time for a new engine and some more power. I want to start with another engine so I can store the original one.
I've got a modest budget 4-5k and I'm not sure what I want. I kinda like the idea of a stroker, but I don't know. I'm only looking for about 350hp (stock I estimate is about 275). I am OK if there is more... Also in that budget I want to change the exhaust and put LT's on it.
I am going to run the Cobra intake, that's a given. My first idea was a factory rebuild, GT40X heads and X303 cam.
How are the GT40X heads? Are there better ones. I know the alphabet cams are a little dated, is there a better cam then the X303?
It's a street car with occasional trips to the track. I'm not too worried about emissions because I drive less then 5k a year at this point and is exempt. I've got 3.08 gears right now, but I'm probably going to put in 3.73's.
Just trying to get some ideas.

do a stroker!! throw on some aluminum heads and a dual pattern otscam or have a custom cam made..but either way a set up of such should easily get your goal

With 350 horsepower you will know it's there. I'd throw a supercharger on it, those heads you already have aren't bad at all. There's a guy up the road from me that has a 95 Cobra with stock heads, intake, and a blower cam in it. He has a Vortech (don't know which one) blower pushing 15 psi boost on it and it made 460 rwhp. He bought the car this way, he has all the supporting mods done and I talked him into taking it to a dyno and made exactly what the previous owner said it did. If N/A is what you want to do then mjr46 said it already.

How big of a deal is the pin in the oil land? When I first was thinking about a stroker I was driving the car alot more and was conserned about it passing emissions.
From looking around, the AFR 185's seem like the best choice. If I don't go with a stoker, are those heads too big?
