Welcome to the forum, but first, a bit of education. The term Fox BODY is incorrect. The Fox name applies to the chassis, not the body. Lots of other Fords were built on the Fox chassis. Fairmont, T'bird, for example.
When shopping for a Fox Mustang, be aware of the condition, existance of the emission equipment originally on the car and the requirements of your area. Does your car have to pass an emission test? If not, is it likely to require that in the foreseeable future? Lots of Foxes have been desmogged. It can be tough to put all that stuff back on.
A bud bought a '92 LX hatch with a '95 Ford Lightning 351 in it for $3200. Good running car, but no way it would ever pass emission. Got a carb, no cats, no smog, no egr, no tailpipes. But it does run STRONG and it's a decent looking car. Even has a good interior. So, the cars are out there. With the bad economy in lots of areas and high gas prices, cars are getting cheaper as people can't afford their toys any more.
When I was shopping, I had specific requirements. Intact smog systems, factory paint, low miles, NOT stock, but no blower cars. I paid $8000 for a one owner, winter stored LX hatch with 45K actual miles on it. The guy gave me $16000 in receipts for stuff he added to the car.

I've got 153,xxx on my daily driven '90 GT. Would not blink at the idea of driving her cross country! Very reliable. I've replaced the starter, alternator and A/C compressor. I did remove the smog pump and piping to "un-clutter" the passenger side. There is really no gain to doing this as it only works when first started. As said, if the motor hashad the PMs done on it, and not belonged to some buckwild teenager, it could last 300,000+ miles.
Good luck with your search fellow Macher!

RE: How long do the 5.0's last for?
There's an old guy that works at my local Pepboys who owns an older mustang...60's or something, with a 302. I believe he said it has 350k+ original miles on the stock motor, and runs as it did when he bought it new. Crazy.
Edit: Actually, I think he said the engine has over 400k miles on it, if you can believe it. It was a long time ago...cant' remember for sure. Another part of our conversation that I remember was him saying how important it is to run the motor hard every now and then to blow the carbon out of the c-chambers and free up the piston rings. He was adamant about this.
