Default Compression Ratio Questions

So, im busy thinking about what i want for my car in the near future

This summerish, im going to be doing a top end, AFR 165's Edelbrock or holley intake, and a custom cam

and in the near future i want to save up and get a 347 short block

1st question, what is the reliability status on TRE www.treperformance.com

they have a 347 short block that im looking at that comes with either flattop (10.79 c/r with 60cc heads) or dish top (9.5x w/ 60cc heads)

im getting the AFR 165s with 58cc heads, so im ASSUMING that there will be about a .2 c/r increase over 60cc,

2nd Q will the 165's work with a 347

3rd will the custom grind cam for the 5.0 work with the 347, or should i just get a regular one from steeda or something, and then get the custom grind when i get the 347

now, the 4th and final question, highly likely the most important of all

WILL i be able to run a 10.9ish compression ratio on 91 octane gizzoline? or should i go dot the dish pistons

also, anyone have 10 grand to loan me?

well i cant help on the 10 grand, just spent 7 on my motor.
if you have plans of f/i go for the lower cr, other wise do the higher.
and since your pretty certain your getting a 347, up the heads to atleast 185's, if not 195/205's.
the 165's will work but they wont have enough flow for the stroker.
im pretty sure u can use the high compression with 91 as long as its tuned for it.
i will be running 10.25-10.50 cr and was told 91 octane is no problem with a tune for it.
and lastly ive never heard anyone on here mention tre before, so i cant give you any input on that.
altho fordstrokers.com i can tell you is awesome! haha well thats my 2cents on everything.
i know i didnt answer the questions in the right order but i think you can figure it out.

1. 165's = to small for the stroker in theroy
2. get a custom cam for max results = what the bias on this forum leans to always
3. I ran 11 to 1 on pump gas.. so you'll be fine
4. no to the 10 grand and get a better paying job to fund your project

correction, i need a job period

****... will 185's be too big for the 5 liter? or will it be fine until i decide to get the 347, that may be a couple years away

if it'll be a few years then I wouldn't worry about the question now but I'm using 185's on my 347 soon to arrive..so 185's should be good

i hear aobut people do hci's on a stock bottom end that use trickflow high ports and afr 185's without problems.
so i would just go for the 185's now.
and i forgot to mention before that i would just buy an otc cam right now thats mild and get a custom down the road when you get the stroker.

sounds like another good motor. i would say not to exceed 10.5 comp if this will see any good amount of street time. i say yes to atleast 185's if u do plan on stroking it or even if you add a power adder on the 302. but i say no on the custom cam i would just get a good ots cam and do the custom with the stroker. i am running a trickflow stage 2 .542/.563 286/294 dur and @.050 it is ..224/.232 and it sounds good in my 306. i am running 9.5 for the fact as i know this motor will see some juice and maybe a little boost later down the road

Yeah, 185's for a 347. And compression you run will also be determined by the cam you run. Generally speaking a larger cam will tolerate more compression before detonation. So you could run a large cam for the 347 with the 185's on a 302, it'd make top end power, but be a bit doggy on the street until you step up the cubes. Or run the 185's and just swap to the bigger cam when you put the stroker kit in(which makes more sense, seeing as how you're already inside the engine again so a cam change is nothing).
