How to tell GT from LX...

How to tell GT from LX...
Was looking at an 85 GT today, 302 convertible. Had GT side moldings on it, but just wasnt sure if it was an actual GT, so i was just wondering in general how you truly tell if a car is a GT or LX, from like the vin or something. Anywhere in the vin that specifies?

it'll be on the door tag..options and the gt's had the black out effects and the front bummpercover had fog light holes of the 85's....and the seats had the halo head rests and on the dash above the glove box there is a name plate for gt......the mustang gt registry will list all differences

ya, its just there have been a few owners of this car, and i have a feeling that a GT body kit was just thrown onto it. Also the thing on the door was really not clean enough to see.

look on the radiator buck tag, it will say GT, only 100% way of verifiying
