I see a lot of members posting forums about gears and rear axle upgrades...

I also see the mods on the stallions that their installing this stuff on.....

1.) When is it REALLY necessary to upgrade your axles from 28 to 31 splines??
2.) When is it REALLY necessary to upgrade your Differential instead of rebuilding the Trac-Lok let's say??

I think it boils down to the money you want to spend, ofcourse 31 spline is going to be stronger but hardened 28 splines will go a good ways.

well what are u doing with the car? how much hp? those are questions you need to answer first

well, jtmustang.... I was hoping someone would tell me what axles to get - with a certain amount of hp.....

I have 360hp right now, the only other plans down the road - is add on a supercharger or turbo - i doubt I'll ever have the money....

My goal is to restore this car to as close to show quality and add some more horsepower....

like state above and as what im doing myself with my motor below ,also too have boost to it one day.

i am gonna buy the moser 28 splines they are strong enough for that amount of horsepower and a little more. and only like 250 bucks score my summit card is my friend

so if your putting out 450hp - 28spline axles are A - ok?

I don't think how much power you make has nearly as much to do with how hard you launch and what tires you use.

agreed very true as i will take mine to the track and i am not worrying about that as i am not gonna crazy launch(5000+) or anything like that.

hell ive seen 5,6,800 hp cars launching at 5000 or more with slicks and not break them.it all depends but the moser replacement axle 28 spline will be fine unlees your car sees a lot of track time then i would upgrade to 31's

I had some extra money and upgraded to 31 spline when i did my gears, lets just say if i ever break them i'm going to be so pissed off.

someone gave me a brand new auburn differential.... i'm thinking of selling it... hopefully get enough for the 400dollar labor

and i'll buy a trak-lok rebuild kit, moser 28splines, 3.73gears ffrp, and save myself some money
