160* OR 180* Thermostat

RE: 160* OR 180* Thermostat
180* is the lowest you should go with EFI considering the ECU runs conrtols the engine by temp and if it doesn't get to 180 it wont run right. If you over heat, you have other problems.

RE: 160* OR 180* Thermostat
wow upon reading this I messed up.. I am running a 160 in my 95 because the old thermo stuck on me. so I just went ahead and replaced it with a 160 thinkin it would do me good. And honestly something never was right about it after that. Guess I will go to a 180 when Im done rebuilding it.

RE: 160* OR 180* Thermostat
the engine will never reach operating temp so it will run rich
I see 120+* summers here, and I use a 180* stat, 3-row radiator, and I have a tauras fan waiting to be installed

im not sure, I got it out of a 5.0 Tbird that had just been dropped off at the junkyard, fuking sweet for $25, still had the antifreeze in it, but I still got it flushed

RE: 160* OR 180* Thermostat
I run a 195 in mine, and it routinely gets over 100 in Bakersfield during the summer. No overheating. The hotter the engine is, the better fuel vaporizes and the more rapidly/completely combustion occurs. I wouldn't run a colder stat unless it helps control detonation on a more agressive tune. If it overheats and the stat is working, the problem is something else.
