Installed 4.10 gears!

Installed 4.10 gears!
They just installed my 4.10 ring and pinion, but there's whining noise, is it because they are new and new to break in. Or is it because they are installed wrong. Also what is the cheapest calibrator for the speedometer. [/align]

RE: Installed 4.10 gears!
It depends on how much whining is there. The lash setting is around .007-.012. If they set it to the tight side the whining could go away in a bit. With the gear installs i've done i always set them a little tight and eventually the noise go's away. Just keep in touch with the shop and let them know whats going on so they'll know. And if the noise does not go away take them back. Dont forget to change the fluid after 50-100 miles and make sure there are no shavings.

My 3.55's are a little noisy. Always have been. They guy that did mine worked at a Ford dealership as the drivetrain guy. He set mine @ .012 so that under hard acceleration, they would be in the sweet spot.

If the gears are whining they were installed wrong, get it back to them asap.

If you buy cheap gears they will whine. I'm not sure about the motive gears, but cheaper gears such as ones from Summit Racing will whine no matter what you do. I prefer Ford Racing brand gears.

Mine whine at certain speeds but I think its because they were used gears and the guy that installed them screwed them up a bit.
Check 50 Resto for the speedometer correction gear.
