It's because they are terrible filters, plain and simple. There was a big deal a while ago about this, and i can't seem to find the article but just switch to Motorcraft filters.

I'll give you an example. I have a Mazda Miata for a daily driver. It is supposed to have an anti-drain back valve in the bottom. Fram dosen't have one because they are cheap. Only the better filters have this. If I used fram or a cheap filter my engine would rattle, tick and make all kinds of noise when I started it.

Frams are made like absolute crap. Poor filter media, not much of it, it has a weak glued pleat, a flimsy case, a crappy end cap, and pathetic spring etc etc. Frams are what you would expect if someone built a filter as cheaply and poorly as you could. I know a guy who had a race car, and his dad put a Fram on it without him knowing, and when he started it up the filter media came apart(high presure oiling system) and got rammed through the oiling system in pieces and scoured the crank/bearings etc. Internally they are very flimsy.
