Default To all Californians with exhaust mods...

I live in SoCal, and it seems like everyone around me is running off-road H or X pipes. I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one following the rules. Lately, I've been having the urge to put an off road pipe on my car. Just wondering a couple of things.

1. How many of youCA guys "know someone" who's running an offroad pipe?
2. Will my car be ridiculously loud with an O/R pipe and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers?
3. Will I necessarily smell exhaust fumes in the car after installing the pipe?
4. What is the performance gain, going from the factory H pipe to an O/R pipe?
5. What is the legal penalty for such a transgression.

Thanks, fellas.

well im not from cali but your car will be louder then what it is now,,but it wont be holy crap shut your windows to your house cause your coming down the street loud, you wont smell no fumes in the car as long as your keeping your tail pipes to the back of the car bumper, i was told by many calif penalties its like 1000 dollars for each cat thats not on there..so our cars came oem with 4 cats so thats about a 4,000 dollar penalty,,but i guess it could get away with just 2 cats.... but the car will pick up better in performance it will breath a lot better and in the process pick up a few extra ponies along the way

Ive been running no cats, with no problems. Cops are never gonna look under there, its not overly loud and I dont smell any fumes.

Well dumps make it louder and thats how you smell fumes to. So if you want the quiets way to run an off road h or x would run tailpipes and you dont get the smell of fuems while your driving.

Thanks, fellas. I think I "know someone" who might be getting an offroad pipe real soon then. My buddy's 4.6 sounds fierce with an O/R pipe...makes mine sound like less than a Mustang...even though mine's as fast as his is.

you can always register the car to a county that doesnt have emission laws..that is if you have a cabin or know someone with a cabin in the mountains or something.
