Sunroof Leakage

Sunroof Leakage
When i bought my car i noticed an ugly patch of black sealent on the roof of my sunroof right above the latch on the inside. I have not touched the sunroof since, and it has not leaked until now. Im almost positve i just need to replace the weather stripping to fix the leak, but i may run into some trouble taking the sunroof out and getting it back in with the sealent there. Have any of you seen this before? The leak isint really that bad, but it would be nice to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

RE: Sunroof Leakage
i have an 89 gt with sunroof leaked like a b*tch.....i pulled the sunroof all the way out and theres 4 drains...i took a long wire and fed it down to unclog any dirt int here..and then i blew the drians out with the blower on my dads air compresser....also theres a plastic gakset in the handle assembly that broke and leaked..it seals the 2 screws that hold the handle to the sunroof..i went to lowes and got 2 rubber washers and used them instead...as we speak its pouring here and no more leak

Yea it looks like someone just tried to make it a quick fix. Looks like you can also use some new weatherstripping. Go to www.latemodelrestoration.comand you can get a great replacement kit for about $60 if I remember right. Mine hasn't had any problems after I put mine on.

RE: Sunroof Leakage
As in taking it in and out of the car? No. If it is a stock sunroof from the facrtory then you can take it out without touching that part. The pieces that pivot on the inside should push in and you can push the sunroof out.
