Default Impressed with a little lx hatch auto

Well,
Took my 16 year old kids 93 lx hatch automatic to the track for the first time this weekend, let him have the drag experience, learn howto navigate the 1320. I am a gm man , but this car may make me a convert!
STOCK except these basic bolt ons_ underdrive pulleys-70mm ford mass air-mac equal length shorties-bbk xpipe -flowmasters-3.55 rear-trans go shift kit-timing at 14degrees -bfg comp drag radials 14.22@97mph on a 102DEGREE humid day here in virginia ! I was figuring low to mid 15s, the autos are generally a little sliuggish. boy was i surprized! I bought all the stuff off ebay USED!!! I still have the mkvii electric fan to install with a 180 thermo. everybody was off 2-3 tenths et on saturday heck if we go back on a normal june day in virginia, that should be a high 13second car? the fox bodies are dirt cheap- parts are plentiful!i bought him a lx 5.0 causei wanted him to have a "performance " car and not me get raped by the insurance company! i mean heck my 16yo has learned alot about cars , i have made him do all the bolt ons with me supervisin, we havesome comman ground now. he has the pride of "building" his own hot-rod- all with ebay parts!! so cool!!!

ya thats what my dad and i did, now its more or less my car and he doesnt really help to much anymore cause i know more than he does now

But the fox is definatly a dirt cheap performance car, and its fun! good job on the runs man, try getting a transgo shift kit for the auto! i had one (until it blew up) and it made the shifts super firm and really fast

stock lx's run like 14.7 to 15.1.

3.55's and minor bolt ons i would expect 14.00 if not high 13's. not sure how much the weather would play on those numbers but sounds a lil.....eh...[&:]

but other than that good job on the kid, sounds like he's going down the right direction, and yes...convert to the ways of the 5.0...you wont regret it.

My kid is lovin it! He and his brother been racing mx since they were little tiny guys, well the medical resume has gotten alittle thick for a 16 and a 15 year old, so i have been trying to feed that competive fire some other way. I may have found it! heck, most 5.0 automatics i have seen have struggled to get out of the 15s , thats why i was surprized with this one. 102 degrees 110 heat index?? no doubt that car would be 13.90s on a normal day. my point is that it has been so cool to watch and help my 16 year old transform this car from an absolute slug to a respectable performer using bartered ebay parts!! Stiil gets right around 20 mpg also !

hey sx, what part of va are you in? Just curious as to what track you are running at. Thinking about taking mine to sumerduck sometime and see what it can do and get a basic starting number.
