Default Another update on Purple Bucket rebuild

I found out today that we couldn't save the crank. It was kind of sketchy if it was okay or not. Well, of course...it wasn't. There were some cracks..UUGGHH.

Oh well, time for some better parts. I ordered a Lunati 4340 twisted forged crank. The total cubic inches on the new motor will be 415cid...WAHOOOOO

Moral of story....CHINA SUCKS. Scat and Eagle are both made in China. This equals...broken rod=Eagle.....cracked crank=Scat.

If ya have to skimp on certain parts, make sure they aren't critical parts.

***For those who don't know...I had a crank bearing freeze which in turn broke a rod and caused other damage. It broke the DSS billet main girdle into 5 pieces.

So, the new set up will be boring the block 60 over, new Manley forged rods, new custom forged Diamond pistons (15.5:1 CR), Lunati twisted forged crank, more porting and polishing on my AFR heads, new Comp Cams triple valve springs as well as a few other goodies and tweaks. New engine size will be 415cid.

Will keep ya posted.

haha same thing. it closer to pink than purple.

that compression did help the bearings much when **** hit the fan. with the higher compression i thought you were suppose to check things over pretty frequently; is this correct?

I ran the valves everytime before I raced. I just found out the hard way that the guy didn't build the motor as well as he thought he did. Also, I was a little nervous about the Chinese parts, but oh well.

The failure was caused by a stupid bearing. There were some other factors that could have contributed to the failure....like the crank was cross drilled, which was done (in theory for the right reasons). However, it has shown that cross drilling the crank can cause air bubbles and lead to premature bearing failure.
