Question for people with a stock block stroker 331 or 306 with a blower
Hey If you got a stroked out stock short block with a blower let me know your experience! You may or may not have read my other post about Shortblocks.. I am going to do a stroker and want to know if you have had any luck or bad luck.. Let me know so you can help me make an educated decision. I had orig decided to do the 331 for the tourqe gain, but had been worried that I might end up grenading my block.. If you pushing some power let me hear about it.
I only plan on driving the car on weekends and to the track on occasion. But when its out I do plan on running somwhat hard.. I dont plan on going over 6k RPM's but right now doing anywhere from 8 to 11 pounds of boost. ( depends on the weather) And Budget is demanding a factory style block. I know a dart would be the best choice but not an option
Hope to hear from ya..
Thanks
Guch

you will be at the limit of a stock block.. I have a built 347 with a 100 shot on it and N/A it runs mid 11's and I've yet to spray it for that fear as it'll put me well into 10's and a safe total hp level for stock blocks is around 450 rwhp

Thanks for the reply I dont disagree with your comment at all... But I do hear more and more people making more power.. are they just on borrowed time? (very likely) I was thinking IF I ran a 306 or 331 with 8.6:1 compression , lower girdle and valley struts the lower boost from the added C.I. stock blower pully and lower RPM maybe 5800 to 6000 could I possibly be safer or am I just kidding myseslf.. since I will most likely be in the 500plus range.. and just a ticking time bomb waiting to make me once again out of luck..
I prob was in the 400 to 450 HP range on my stock block but blew a Head gasket before the block..

just not gaining anymore strength with a girdle and a valley support... all a gimick.. ive seen a stock block 302 make 570 horse.. not everyone is lucky.. its the risk you take to play!

there will be no gauranttee on a stock block.. some blow it at higher levels and others blow it at lower levels.. a good tune is key for longevity on boosted cars

Yeah I have heard that too about the girdle I figured it wouldnt hurt though right? How is it that companies like DSS and CHP and other can make those claims? I dont get it.... How do they get away with that?
And again.. I know you are right about the power limits.. I think I may be trying to convince myself I might be a lucky one.. On a annother note . would a 306 be more reliable than a 331 because of the material removed and side loading that the stroker will put on the cyl wall.. albeit not a huge amount.. but given the thin wall the 306 should theoretically stronger no?

good point.. but doesnt the 331 and even more with the 347 put a side load on the cylinder wall due to the added stroke length.. And please forgive my ignorance.. I am no engineer or even mechanic.. Thanks for all the responses!
