Wondering about blowers

Wondering about blowers
My son and I are building a stock block 5.0 for his 88 and arethinking about getting the Vortech Low-Boost Supercharger. We were considering the High-Boost, but figured we'd have to o-ring the block or else it would eat headgaskets. Is o-ringing and getting the High-Boost worth the extra 60 or so HP or save the money ($1500 or so) and go Low-Boost? Anyone have any experience or recommendations? Thanks.

Low boost, high boost. WTF, how about some actual #'s? I have a Procharged 92 w/ 160k on it. Completely stock block, heads and cam. Bolt ons only. I run 12psi of boost w/ no problems. You just need an adequate fuel system and a good tune.

Good point,we're looking at Vortech V1 SC-Trim 5-6lbs vs V2 SQ S-Trim 8-10lbs.I don't know if all blower makers measure boost the same way. Before you say "a pound is a pound", I have seen a lot of Chevy guys estimate their HP and I know they're using a different scale than the rest of us. LOL. Anyway, I am worried about head gaskets with 10 pounds.

just because they say 8-10 doesnt mean you will see that much. my V2 SQ trim only put out 7psi maxon my 302 with the pulley's that came with the kit. if you get the 5psi kit you'll be kicking yourself in theass a few weeks later for not getting the bigger one. and like Pro said. a good fuel system and a good tune and youll be fine.

Like I said, I have a 160K motor, never opened running 12 psi. It's all in the tune and the fuel. You should be able to run 10psi w/ no problems provided your tune is good. Remember, heat and detonation are the biggest killers of a f/i set up.

RE: Wondering about blowers
i've never heard of anyone having to put orings in the heads due to boost.
just buy the supercharger you want and get some of those mls head gaskets and i think you'll be set.
and like said you'll kick yourself in the butt later if you don't get the bigger kit now

yeah maybe if you had a gynormous turbo pushing 35 lbs[&:]
or that one dude who put a train supercharger on his maro that made like 100lbs, blipped the throttle and blew both head gaskets at once

RE: Wondering about blowers
You have to have enough fuel to satisfy the amount of boost. More air in the cylinders equals more fuel needed to compensate. Not enough fuel equals BOOOOM!!! So bigger injectors, larger pump or an add on pump to work w/ the in tank pump so you can force enough fuel into the mixture. And a good dyno tune is a must.
Regardless of the engine size, it equates all the same. More air, more fuel, however it has to be done. The end result must be the correct mixture for the set up.
