Default HO or non HO

is it possible to have an HO motor with the non HO fireing order? im stumped here...the car i just found out was running with the firing order for the non high output the car is an 1988 gt with what i would think is the high output motor, actually i know it is

i switched the wires around and the car barely idled....what the hell is going on?

may have put in a cam from an old 302 and had to use a different firing order/ wouldnt make much sense to do that though,
