Average MPG 87 GT ?
Hey guys, I have 87 GT Vert. Only mods I know of it having are shorty equal length headers and bigger throttle body. I seem to get 170 Miles per tank, does this seem like this should be right? I remember when I had a 91 lx 5.0, I got around 225 mpt and that was a stock car. Also the 87 is a SD and 91 was of course MAF.

does the car seem like its running correctly, i.e. missing, stuttering, whatnot?? Maybe do a fuuuuull tuneup, all the usuals plus even a fuel filter. My little bro had a ttop 87 with a full shorty back, o/r, dumped exhaust, bumped timing, cai, and an anvil for a foot, and still got better mileage than that. He was running stock 3.08's, so maybe you have a gear mod you didnt know about? Im sure you would tell the difference, being a previous stang owner, but.........just a suggestion. Good luck...

Well the car seems like its running correctly, except it idles a lil high. usually right above 1k rpms, my other stangs were a few hundred before that. It doesnt stutter, miss or anything and it seems to be running great. I havent had a chance to check the gear ratio yet but they seem to be 3.08's, i know they def aint the 2.xx,
I will be doing a full tuneup since you guys suggested it. What all should I do in this tune-up ?

thats way off...
+1 for tuneup. my friends have 5.0's- both auto/2.73 cars, one 87 and a 91. the 91 consistantly got 26mpg going 75 on a trip, and the 87 peaked at 31mpg going cross country behind the U-haul(at 55mph)
