87 mustang 5.0 will not stay running without giving it some gas, once it is warmed up it runs fine. Just replaced the spark plugs and it acted a little better but would still die if i didn't give it gas. The exaust smells rich, so i was thinking ignition?

what do you guys think?

Sounds like it could be the IAC sensor...you can take it off and clean with carb. cleaner...also, try some dry gas in the fuel tank...fuel filter?

^^^ LOL, I think he means the carburator/throttle body cleaning stuff.

BTW, I recommend you do a full tune-up. Spark plugs is only one of the things to change.

Have you checked for a possible vacuum leak?

haha.. I got a new cap and rotor, new ignition coil, I cleaned my IAC, I started checking for vacuum leaks, then i was about to start cleaning my throtle body when i noticed my conical filter on my CAI was missing the end cap. Which means I have been sucking unfiltered air for somewhere along the lines of about a week or so. Got a new filter and everything has seemed to clear up.

Scratch that.
I just went to start it and the same thing, starts fine then putters out unless i give it gas.

Any more ideas?

i got the same problem in my 89 its gets anooying sometimes, it only does it in the moring after my cars ben parked over nite
