true, mjr is right, in 78 it was a mustang II, and so to have a "fox body" it would have to be 79... the word fairmont was not mentioned in the title...who the heck knows what 5.0s mom means? I thought he ment like, the first year fox, and had a typo. lol, fairmont...lol. thats funny, all us mustang guys are like, wtf? 78 fox, shut up fool...lol, fairmont.

the 78 fairmont 2 door futura is the first fox boby (that is why it is titled 5.0 mom) all 79-93 will still fit a 78 (even the front end will fit if you change the whole front FENDERS HOOD BUMPER HEADLIGHTS)THE DOOR LINES MATCH UP
Suspension was a success so ford made it the mustang....

Until the 2005 Mustang which was designed as a Mustang from the ground up, all Mustangs are bastard children based on a chassis/platform already used by another model never really a true sports car.
Borrowed from Wikipedia
The Ford Fox platform was a rear wheel drive, unibody automobile architecture that Ford used for 26 years in the North American market. It was designed to be relatively lightweight and simple, in keeping with the general downsizing of Detroit designs in the late 1970s.
Its initial appearance was in the compact car class, when the Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr appeared in 1978. Eventually, a wide range of Ford models in several market segments would be built off it, with multiple bodystyles and powertrains.
Vehicles using this platform:
1978-1983 Ford Fairmont
1978-1983 Mercury Zephyr
1979-1993 Ford Mustang
1979-1986 Mercury Capri
1980-1988 Ford Thunderbird
1980-1988 Mercury Cougar
1981-1982 Ford Granada
1982-1987 Lincoln Continental
1983-1986 Ford LTD
1983-1986 Mercury Marquis
1984-1992 Lincoln Mark VII
