Depends on your perspective. If your at the concourse or a purist, anything changed is not stock, down to the brand of spark plugs and tires.

If your a racer, the generally accepted "not stock" status is reserved for those that change our "hard parts" intake, heads, cam, bottom end, gears, etc. Bolt ons is generally considered stock.

Addicts consider anything done to the stock platform stock, if you swap to a bigger motor or mini tub its not stock.

Anything other than OEM. But I say it's only not stock so long as it's performance based. Getting the mustang letters in your bumper filled in doesn't mean you're no longer stock.

Best answer.^

If I'm talking to a non car guy. Stock means, dead stock.

For the enthuasiast. For example. My truck. It's not stock at all. It's an 87 Ram with a 5.9L engine from a van. 5 spd trans from a newer truck. A 3.55 geared diff from an older truck. If I was describing it to another gearhead, it's stock. Meaning the engine is not modified internally and it's just a blend of factory parts.

I've met some of those purists slo5oh is talking about. They even try to duplicate factory flaws. Like how the underside of a car is only overspray and not a heavy coat of nice paint. They want that. Some chassis parts are bare metal and rust in like 2 days. They want that too. And among them, that's stock.
