Backfiring through the air filter?

I was driving to work, very fast as usual and when I took the exit ramp and stopped at the stop light, my 93 GT started popping VERY loud and missing. I pull over immediately to find out where the noise is coming from and it's backfiring through the K&N air filter on my cold air setup. Any ideas? I made it the rest of the way to work about 10 miles but I'm afraid to drive it anymore thinking it will tear up something worse. If it were a carburetor I would be thinking it jumped time and needs a timing chain.. What do yall think?

OK

Ok, Well thanks for the help. I'm pulling apart the top end in a parking lot after a 13 hour shift everyday. My guess right now is bent pushrods or a broken valve spring.

wait! that could just be bad timing...check your timing first as it may be that or that its leaning out

did you measure you pushrods when you put he H/C/I in. and i would double check the timing before i went to tearing the top end down, could possibly be a bad injector

check your timing first before you tear anything else apart. set to 10* base timing spout out and then see if that solved your issue.
