Default Edelbrock top end kit?

I am in the process of doing some research for my build this winter and after much debating and deciding I feel it's time for a carbed engine swap in my 89 GT. I was looking around at a few options like a 351w or a 347 and found this 347. Now the goal of this project is to have a reliable 400-450 hp engine that will take the abuse of frequent track visits and use on the street. I was considering piecing together the top end using a combination that I figured out myself when I stumbled on this, Top end kit. I was wondering if some of you more experianced fox-rodders or people who have experience building engines think that this combo will meet my requirements. It doesn't have to be the best combo with the most possible hp for right now, it just has to be able to handle some local LS1s that keep talking trash. Let me know what you think.

It doesn't come with a carb, I'd have to buy that seperate, and it looks like I'd have to supply the pushrods too. I was just wondering if these heads and the cam would get me in the 400hp ballpark. It says it should be good for about 360 on a 302 so I figured on a 347 400hp shouldn't be out of the question. I also don't have anything set in stone, just trying to figure some things out before I commit.

Nothing about that "kit" I like short of the intake which have always been good performers. Give me a call if you have time, can come very close to that price minus intake and make more hp easily. I think edelbrock saw the gold rush with trick flows top end kit and hastily threw something together. It's a no go in my opinion. Buy that same intake used for 100 bucks and bead blast it or send it to me and I will blast it for free, look brand new

damn i thought u got more in their kit 1900 and still need rockers, pushrods, carb and such and also flat tappet cam skip that crap.

and give woody a call if u really want to make some decent power and have well known ford guys helping out.

i will be giving woody/jay a call this winter for some parts for my 351 w.

i AGREE with woodsy!! the heads are to small for a 347 and cam is all wrong = 302 cam.........I run the same short block from ford strokers and run afr 185's , rpm air gap and comp xe282 cam and ran 11.59 @ 118.4......and it still has more in it....do what woodsy suggests

When I was asking about a top end for a 351w a few of the guys in the 351 section said that the TF heads out perform the AFRs any day of the week. Is that true or are they mis-informed? I had always heard the AFRs were some of the better heads out there.

It depends on which TFS heads your are comparing to an AFR.......I believe Woodsy is a TFS MAN ........I'm partial to AFR'S but both are good heads and you couldn't convince me that AFR'S are subpar...cause anything I've put them on they have exceeded my expectations and they have been on 3-4 different builds and are currently on my 347 that woodsy built, and they have really performed well alot of people only go off of what they hear...some really need to start using what they may or may not consider a topline product and they might be shocked at what the truth really is.

Would you recommend the shortblock I posted? It seems like it would be a decent amount cheaper than any 351w based build and I could reuse things like my LTs. How is the driveability of the 347? I'd like for this thing to be able to be driven to the track and taken out two or three times a week if at all possible.
